Arts & Heritage

First Nations were the earliest inhabitants of the Chilliwack area thousands of years ago and Chilliwack, “quieter water at the head”, is the name given to this area by the Sto:lo peoples.

The new Sto:lo Resource Centre will be located at the Coqualeetza site on Vedder Road, within a bike ride of Garrison Crossing. This building is currently under construction; the ground-breaking ceremony was held in September 2009.

With its beginnings in First Nations art and culture, Chilliwack has continued to prosper through a fascinating history including being part of the fur trade and the Gold Rush. Today, Chilliwack is home to many artists and artisans, cultural events and heritage attractions. Explore Chilliwack and learn more about its history and culture!
